We began our journey by 3pm Wednesday after making an exchange at the Shane Co rendezvous point with Nell (we traded Alvin straight up for four days on the road). Traffic was a bit slow through Denver but once we hit the open road it was speed limit all the way. The snow stayed with us for about an hour out of Denver but then we got ahead of it occasionally encountering blowing flurries.
It was a quiet ride with a spacious back seat but we missed the little guy. He started this laughing thing this week so we missed getting to hear the giggles. He's in good hands, though. And we're glad he gets some grandparent time.
Our journey took us to Burlington, Colorado just 14 miles shy of the Kansas border where we feasted at the fine dining establishment called Arby's. Unfortunately we did not get to see much of the Kansas landscape because by the time we entered the state darkness had fallen upon us. We eventually arrived in Russell for our night's stay at the Days Inn.
Today we leave for KC. First stop, Arthur Bryant's BBQ. Then it is off to Olathe to reminisce about the old days. I was telling Alli what I remember of Olathe growing up but I'm sure a lot has changed in almost a quarter century. We shall see soon enough. Well, so long Russell. It was nice knowing you.
