St. Joseph Hospital

At the risk of sounding crass and insensitive, I am thrilled that the hospital has ESPN2 on the tv so I can watch the US v Mexico World Cup qualifier. Right now Alli is pumped up on narcotics and asleep; the US is up 1-0 at half-time.

We are at the hospital just over a year from her last 4-day stay here. The same abdominal pain that brought her in a year ago January has brought her back. She started having the pain early Sat morning. We took a trip to the ER late Sat night and then we came back this morning.

Apparently this is the same issue that happened last year. The doctors were never able to definitively diagnose the problem but thought it was probably an ulcer. She has been fine most of the last year and the follow-up endoscopies all showed the swelling to be reducing.

Today she got to see the same GI doc who has been working with her for the past year. Alli has had ultrasounds, blood tests, urine tests, another endoscopy, and an mri today. Her GI doc now believes the cause not to be an ulcer but some kind of cyst manifesting itself outside of her stomach. The doc thinks it might be a duplication cyst.

Alli will stay in the hospital overnight so they can observe her and make sure the pain subsides. The doctors are not worried about the cyst being cancerous. The mri today showed that it could even be a little smaller than it showed up in the ct scan last year. However, she will probably need surgery at some point to have it removed. Ideally the pain will ease until after delivery of the baby so she can wait on the surgery.

The baby is fine. As the ER doc put it, the baby is probably stoned right now on the percocet as it does pass through the placenta. No long term effects are expected. I will try to update more when there is news. By the way, US 1 Mexico 0 with 33 minutes left.
