Allison is now in surgery. She went in about 12pm MST. The surgeon thinks it will be 2-3 hours although it is scheduled for 5.5 hours. He said rarely do they get to perform a true exploratory laparotomy surgery since modern technology typically isolates the issue to go after. The two doctors performing the surgery are the head surgeon and the chief resident, so she has the best from both worlds. Although they are focused on this mass (which is apparently the size of an orange) they will check everything while they are in there.
The doctor told me that if this is indeed what they think it is (a duplication cyst) it is extremely rare and her case will be published. There have only been 117 documented duplication cysts in adults since 1911.
I am in the waiting room now with Allison's parents. Alvin is playing with friends today. And, Olivia is doing well in the NICU. Hopefully we will get an update on her status soon.
