When is Olivia coming home?

I don't know.

This is honestly the number one question I wonder these days and it could be 5 days or 3 weeks. It is all dependent upon Olivia and when she decides it is time to eat well. Every stage of this has had different difficulties, but this waiting is crazy. She is so close and yet the timing is unpredictable.

Meanwhile, she continues to grow - crossing the 6 pound mark this week. It is amazing to see how far she has come - not just in size, but also in all the issues that have been resolved by just letting her grow and develop. We've witnessed and held her through, what should have been, her third trimester and now we have a baby who is so close to thriving with us at home. Amazing.

We'll let you know as soon as we know.

Know that it's a total blessing that your NICU is keeping her until she's an awesome eater! She's doing great if she's 6 pounds along, and she's already eating from a bottle, so she'll be with you soon! (Our NICU sent our boys home a wee widdle bit too early, which meant months of feeding therapy for Christopher.) This last part is the most frustrating part because she really could come home tomorrow or three weeks from now. We'll pray that she's home tomorrow rather than three weeks from now!

one day at a time. she'll be home before you know it and when she's ready. a friend pointed out to us, "in these times, hospitals definitely don't keep ANYONE in their halls a day longer than they must. the insurance companies are pushing to get patients home." the other thing that helped was this: when mine came home it was freaky b/c all of the sudden i couldn't see their heart rates and hear if they stopped breathing. i had grown accustomed to that security. i was able to reduce my anxiety by knowing that they really were, indeed, ready to come home. that particular nicu won't take chances. and while you miss her terribly (I KNOW), you'll be thankful for it in the end. and ours turned 3 this past saturday. you'll be there before you know it!

It must be so hard to not know, but also encouraging that she is doing good. Over 6 pounds- yeah!

She is now bigger (by far) than my daughter was when she was born (Zara was 5lbs 6oz)! But I do know that gestational age is the biggest factor in babies' births. Still, how extremely exciting!
